Project summary

During the residency, the ensemble l’Anice develops an innovative concert program that goes beyond the framework of early music, exploring new sounds and possibilities for the combination of historical harp and harpsichord. Starting points for the project are medieval and baroque compositions around the harp, in which the enigma plays an important role: only the knowledgeable could solve it and enjoy the music. Raising a question on the accessibility of music, which was thus meant for a small circle of people, the ensemble explores not only new ways of addressing this timeless topic through contemporary composition, but also new strategies to communicate with the audience of today, bridging the gap between (apparently) inaccessible music practices and the enjoyment of music for everybody.

Biography: Ensemble L’Anice consists of harpist Michela Amici and composer/harpsichordist/pianist Lorenzo Pandiscia.
Performing on historical instruments, the musicians met at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis (CH). They share a diverse background going from early to new music; from composition to architecture.

Michela Amici was artist in residence at the Dutch Festivals Gaudeamus (Nieuwe Noten) and Dag in de Branding (New Makers) and premiered several new compositions written for her by composers such as Kate Moore.
Lorenzo Pandiscia won several competitions as composer and performer, including the Stelvio Cipriani prize in Rome. As harpsichordist, he recently performed with the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana under the baton of Charles Dutoit, recorded live for the Radio Svizzera Italiana.
