Project summary

The project will support RefrACTion ART in creating their new performative installation 'The Volume'. Inspired by the throwaway mentality of contemporary consumer culture — a system producing countless disposable objects that end up polluting our environment — the work reimagines discarded materials as artistic and sonic elements that respond to movement. Fragments with the chromatic richness of mosaic tiles and varied textures will be assembled in a performative installation where creation becomes part of the artwork, culminating in a sculptural form that encloses the performer within it — a metaphorical drowning in the waste we generate daily. RefrACTion ART has long explored environmental awareness through art, installations, and performance.

RefrACTion ART: Ekaterini Kriezi & Lydia Margaroni

Biography: RefrACTion ART is a collaborative project between artists Lydia Margaroni and Ekaterini Kriezi, exploring the intersection of visual art and contemporary digital media. Rooted in the fine arts, their practice spans video art, photography, sound, painting, installation, and performance. Engaging with themes of femininity, nature, and social awareness, they shape a shared visual language that weaves together media, disciplines, and critical thought. Margaroni, a visual artist and author, works with painting, sculpture, trash-art, LandArt, and ephemeral constructions, often using recycled materials. Kriezi, a Greek-Danish artist and musician, combines digital art, sound, and activism to raise awareness of social and environmental issues.
