Project summary

Common Grounds is a residency led by Duemila30 Festival with filmmaker Illia Rogovskyi, in partnership with Raindance and Four River Film Festival. Building on a journey that began at Duemila30 in 2023 and continued through Duemila30Lab 2025, it supports the completion of a trust-based collaborative documentary of the same title. Through rhythmic narration, the film explores emotional distance and human connection. The residency includes workshops, mentorship, and a co-creation block at Duemila30Lab 2026, offering visibility to programmers and educational support. Blending shared authorship, consent-first practice, and intimate camerawork, Common Grounds reflects Duemila30’s values and highlights how creativity and care can drive social change.

Illia Rogovskyi

Biography: Born in Kyiv, Ukraine, I began my path in filmmaking at fourteen as a props assistant on set, later working as a lighting technician and gaffer. After relocating to the Czech Republic due to the war, I continued to build my career as a Director of Photography, gaffer, and colourist, working on independent films, commercials, and music videos. My recent projects include the feature documentary My Name Is… and the ongoing project Common Grounds, exploring collaboration and human connection in creative environments. Through my work, I seek authenticity, vulnerability, and a sense of shared growth, both on and off the screen.
