Project summary

“How Are You?” — This simple yet profound question sparks a documentary theater project with empêché publics: psychiatric patients, prisoners, migrants, and elderly in care homes. Rejecting the idea of “bringing culture” as charity, the project creates spaces of mutual transformation, where institutions are questioned and theater itself is redefined. Participants become teachers, their experiences revealing truths about reality and the liberating power of fiction. Workshop and performance are inseparable: inquiry-based sessions gather testimonies, embodied memories, and narratives that shape the dramaturgy. Through residencies in France, Italy, and digital collaboration with Finland, marginalized voices are brought back to the center of public discourse.

Artist

Edouard Pénaud & Jérémie Galiana

Biography: Edouard Pénaud, director, actor, and writer, trained at the National Academy of Dramatic Arts of Paris, and Jérémie Galiana, writer and actor, trained at the Staatliche Schauspielschule Berlin work between France and Italy, developing artistic collaborations that build bridges between cultures. Their practice combines documentary and historical theatre, exploring new dramaturgies and giving voice to those often excluded from traditional narratives.
Over the past years, they have also led workshops in marginal contexts, such as hospitals, prisons, and social shelters, in collaboration with the National Theatre of Montluçon and Aubervilliers. Their work aims to create spaces for shared reflection and collective experience, where art becomes a tool for dialogue and inclusion.
