Project summary

Da Pacem was born from music composed during the Thirty Years' War. From the noble polyphony of the psalms by Schütz and his contemporaries, to songs of lament and jubilation, but also songs that describe everyday life in the midst of battle. We then zoom out: how do environments regenerate after periods of human conflict? When the last blasts and cries have died out, how does nature live on? How does it restore or reinvent itself? These questions inspire a series of soundscapes based on field recordings from places in Belgium and Europe where traces of past wars remind us not to take peace for granted. Baroque music finds its place in these soundscapes created by Inne Eysermans (composer, sound artist, performer) and Katherina Lindekens (dramaturge, audio producer, field recordist).

Biography: Katherina Lindekens moves between music, words and sound. She studied literature (VUB) and musicology (KULeuven), and works as a dramaturge in music (theatre), opera, dance and audio. She has collaborated with artists such as Clément Cogitore, Julian Rosefeldt, Philippe Grandrieux, Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe, Gorges Ocloo, Femke Gyselinck, Lies Pauwels and Alexander Vantournhout. For the past few years, she has been developing her skills as an audio producer, with a focus on field recording.
