Project summary

Heartquake is a choreographic exploration of living on unstable ground, both literal and metaphorical. Inspired by Türkiye’s political and geographical landscape, it reflects on how the land shapes ways of thinking. Conceived after the destructive 2023 earthquake in the east of Türkiye, the work investigates fragility as both a personal and collective condition. Through this grant, the work aims to extend across Europe to engage with diverse geographies of uncertainty of similar sorts in Serbia, Cyprus and Greece, bringing together countries which are not expected to come and work together due to historical clashes to explore how artists embody disruption, translate social and political fragility into physical expression, and transform destructive forces into shared creative effort.

Ekin Tunçeli

Biography: Ekin Tunçeli is originally from Türkiye based at the moment in Berlin and Istanbul and creates contemporary dance-based productions. She graduated from the Faculty of Medicine and has BA in Contemporary Dance from MSGSU Contemporary Dance Department (İstanbul), which makes her creations both analytic and initiative.

She is interested in exploring the body that is moved by; by emotions, ideas, images, feelings, mindsets, and gathering the choreographic material to form multilayered poetic landscape-like moments.

Her piece has been selected in the Twenty20 by Aerowaves and her work “thinkerbell post covid” is shown at WOW Festival İstanbul by British Council. She had granted for scholarship from flausen+ for research. She graduated from Master of Choreography in Stockholm.
