Sabir Project Collective

Biography: Sabir Project is a Mediterranean improv collective formed in 2016 and made up of 15 artists from Italy, Turkey, Malta, Spain, Algeria, France, Algeria, Greece and Tunisia: Some of them speak Italian, some other Turkish or French or Greek, some speak Arabic, some Spanish, some English but not all of them speak two languages and there is not, technically, one language that we all have in common. But we all speak the International language of Improv. That’s where the magic starts. From 2016, they met 4 times to realize residency and perform improvised shows: 2017 - Rome, Italy; 2018 - Istanbul, Turkey; 2019 - Barcelona, Spain; 2022 - Tolfama, Italy. “We Are All Sabir”, is a free-form long-form improvised show. It is usually a 1-hour performance, but it can be flexible (because it’s improvised). The format involves the audience from the very start, as they are asked yes/no questions on political, ethical, religious issues: The questions are the key to the show and will decide the topic of that performance. The main goal of the questions is to provoke a reaction from the audience and push them to take a position (literally and figuratively). The artists don't state what is right or what is wrong, because even among the group they have very different opinions: this is a perfect mirror of the reality.
